A healthy start builds a bright future

The International Society for Developmental Origins of Health and Disease was set up to promote research into the fetal and developmental origins of disease and involves scientists from many backgrounds.

The aims of the DOHaD Society are to:

  • Promote coordination of a research strategy in different countries, for the scientific exploration of early human development in relation to chronic disease in later life;
  • Promote the development and application of public health strategies to prevent chronic disease;
  • Advocate the need for funds from governmental and non-governmental sources for research in the¬†developmental of health and disease;
  • Stimulate training opportunities for scientists and clinicians;
  • Organize meetings to discuss research findings and potential interventions;
  • Promote the interchange of ideas, staff and expertise between laboratories across the world;
  • Represent DOHaD to government, NGOs and other relevant agencies;

DOHaD World Congresses are organized every two years. Experts address many challenges that currently impact the health of mothers, babies in the womb, infants, children and adolescents, and explore solutions, interventions and policies to optimize health across the life course. Previous meetings were organized in Mumbai, Brighton, Toronto, Utrecht, Perth, Santiago, Portland, Singapore and Cape Town.
